Meet Eleonora the creative soul behind Coastal Crochet
Eleonora is the designer, maker and writer behind Coastal Crochet, a blog and creative space dedicated to sharing the joy of yarn, colour and coastal-inspired design. Half Dutch and half English, she lives on the south-east coast of England with her husband, their three teenagers, and their beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Salty.
Alongside her part-time role working for the NHS, Eleonora pours her heart into crochet design, storytelling and teaching, the passions that led her to launch her blog in 2015. Since then, Coastal Crochet has grown into a vibrant hub for crocheters around the world.
A lifelong love of handmade
Creativity has always been woven through Eleonora’s life. She grew up surrounded by handmade items, from her mother’s crocheted wedding dress to homemade toys, cardigans and colourful touches throughout their home. Crochet wasn’t just a craft; it was part of the family’s identity.
With that rich, creative upbringing, it’s no surprise that Eleonora picked up crochet herself at a young age. Over time, her interest deepened into expertise. She completed the prestigious International Diploma in Crochet, exploring techniques such as Tunisian crochet, Filet, Broomstick, and more, all of which continue to influence her work today.
The heart of Coastal Crochet
Coastal Crochet reflects the world around Eleonora , especially the sea. Living by the coast means she is constantly inspired by changing skies, shifting tides and the colours of the shoreline. Though many of her designs are infused with coastal hues, she also loves to explore bold palettes and new styles.
A huge part of Coastal Crochet’s identity is community. Eleonora’s blanket crochet-alongs have attracted makers from more than 50 countries, all joining in to stitch beautiful designs together. The shared creativity and connection between participants is something she deeply values and continues to nurture.
Her patterns, tips and crochet stories have been featured in leading craft magazines, including Simply Crochet, Inside Crochet and Crochet Now. Whether through her blog, patterns or workshops, Eleonora is passionate about helping others discover the enjoyment and calm that crochet can bring.
