Metal Thread Embroidery - one day workshop with embroidery artist Becky Hogg.

During this one day workshop learn how to make an elegant ‘Hastings Mackerel’ which can be turned into a brooch, a necklace, sew-on patch or a hanging decoration. It is embroidered in 3 Metalwork techniques, over 2 layers of craft felt for a raised effect.

This is the perfect project if you are new to this technique as it's manageable and compact. However, don't worry if you don't complete it in the lesson as you will be equipped with all the materials and an instruction booklet to complete at home.

Suitable for people with basic embroidery skills or for those looking to learn new metal thread embroidery skills.

What you'll learn
The Mackerel is stitched with silver plated and black metal threads, over a shimmery silk/metal organza in a variety of stitches including Couching, Or Nue (couching with a colour) and Cutwork, all traditional skills in this beautiful style of embroidery. The design has the addition of a metallic leather head and fin for maximum shine!

Once the embroidery is complete it can be cut out and backed with a pre cut metallic silver plywood, for jewellery or a decoration.

What you'll get
A boxed kit with all the threads, backing fabric, needles, small hoop and an illustrated instruction booklet.

What you'll need to bring
Embroidery scissors (if you have a pair, we'll also have spares in the studio)

Had my first crochet lesson this morning-such a calm relaxed setting and I can now crochet! It’s great to see these independent businesses setting up and sharing their knowledge with others. Already signed up for another workshop.

Amazing place for anyone who loves arts and craft or excellent coffee! Kate is incredibly kind and patient. The sessions are well designed and thoughtfully set up. The group sizes are perfect. Sociable but small enough that you can ask tonnes of questions as you go. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a dream come true to have round the corner.
