Meet the Tutor- Embroidery Artist Becky Hogg

Her interest in embroidery began in her early twenties, following the completion of a textile degree at Loughborough Art College. Driven by a desire to deepen her understanding of historical textiles and traditional techniques, she undertook a three-year apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace.

The practical skills and professional discipline developed during this time laid the foundation for her work, encompassing all aspects of hand embroidery and continuing to inform her practice today.

With over 20 years of experience as a professional hand embroiderer, she now specialises in metal thread embroidery, also known as Goldwork. Drawn to its rich textures, jewel-like qualities and distinctive luminosity, she finds continual inspiration in its heritage while exploring new creative directions.

Her approach balances respect for traditional stitches and materials with a contemporary sensibility. By reinterpreting classic techniques, she brings freshness to the craft—stylising forms, enhancing dimension through padding, and introducing considered use of colour and pattern to create pieces that feel both timeless and modern. Each design is carefully developed and translated into an embroidery kit, thoughtfully structured to be accessible to stitchers of all levels.

She remains closely involved in every stage of the process, from initial design through to production and packaging. Her work is stocked by respected institutions including the V&A Museum, the Royal School of Needlework, and Lemmikko in Tokyo, alongside a growing international customer base through her online shop. At the heart of her practice is a simple aim: to share the satisfaction of skilled hand embroidery in a way that is engaging, accessible and rewarding.
