Suitable for all abilities, this workshop is welcoming to complete beginners as well as more experienced watercolour artists looking to develop their practice. Led by Kate Conway, the session offers an inspiring exploration of textured watercolour techniques and the creative possibilities they unlock.
While watercolour is often celebrated for its softness and fluidity, it can sometimes lack depth and surface interest. Kate will introduce a range of techniques that bring texture, dimension and richness to watercolour paintings, revealing effects that many artists do not realise are possible within this medium.
You will learn how to create beautiful three-dimensional qualities while maintaining the luminosity and transparency that make watercolour unique, without the use of collage or additional paints. Experimentation and play are at the heart of Kate's teaching approach. You will be encouraged to explore materials and techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment, discovering their own creative responses along the way.
Kate adapts her guidance to suit each student’s experience, confidence and artistic goals. Whether you need step-by-step support or greater creative freedom, you will receive the level of guidance that works best for them. There is no pressure to achieve a finished piece, this workshop is about exploration, discovery and developing new skills.
The session
